Ultra Mobile is a prepaid cell phone carrier known as a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO.
An MVNO is simply any cell phone carrier that does not operate its own cellular network.
Instead of building their own networks, MVNOs make agreements with the four big carriers to use their cellular networks for coverage.
In Ultra Mobile’s case, it uses the T-Mobile network for coverage.
If you are curious to learn more about how the agreements work between the big carriers and the small carriers, check out my article on how some cell phone plans can cost so much less than others.

Get talk, text, and data service when you travel internationally.
The way international roaming works on Ultra Mobile is you add either $5, $10, or $20 of international credit to your account.
Then, minutes, texts, and data that you use while abroad are deducted from your international balance at pay-per-use rates. Common rates are $0.25 per minute, $0.05 per text sent or received, and $0.20 per MB. Keep in mind that $0.20 per MB is equivalent to $200 per GB, which is quite expensive. You may consider other options for international data.

uTalk is a free add-on from Ultra Mobile that lets you enjoy up to 1,200 bonus international calling minutes to 39 destinations.
